Welcome to Obleek

The Obleek blog is born! But it's not to be confused with Bleek Blog for my graphic design company, Obleek Design Studio. Yes, I have two companies with virtually the same name. Yes, it is confusing despite the fact I don't want it to be. I never thought the bags and straps I sold under the name Obleek Design Studio on Etsy would ever really go anywhere, but they did. In fact, "Obleek The Sewing Company" has been quite the accidental business! And because everyone knows our bags as "Obleek Bags" (well, okay not everyone, but there have been a few stories!) we can't exactly go and change the name. So for the sewing business we're taking off the Design Studio part and hoping we don't befuddle too many people.

So how did this all start? In December of 2008, I had decided to make totes, purses, yoga mat bags, and camera straps for virtually everyone on my Christmas list because money was tight and I enjoy making things for people. Well, the items I made went over so well that people began encouraging me to sell my wares. I had already started up an Etsy store to sell some design prints under my graphic design company, Obleek Design Studio, so I decided to go for it.

At first I was only filling orders for my friends, but soon I began to get orders from people finding me randomly on Etsy. The amount of orders grew, and I was no longer able to keep up with everything on my own. My mom (who is my best friend in the world besides my husband) decided to partner with me, and considering she taught me everything I know about sewing, it was a perfect fit.

Now we work closely together, and our little Etsy store is growing every day. Word of our bags and straps is getting around, and we love creating items for our customers as well as designing new ones whenever we have the time. We are constantly thinking up and adding new products and buying fabrics we love.

The purpose of this blog is to give updates, inside information, and to notify our customers and admirers of contests and sales. Eventually we plan to have a full on website, but between my full-time job as a graphic designer and running our Etsy store, I figured a blog would be a better idea for the time being.

To launch our new blog, we plan on having a contest soon, so stay tuned for more info. We'll also be introducing all our bags and accessories, and the newest tote and purse we have in the works.
